I mean I have no problems with 2D and outside contours and stuff. I just got the mill six months ago after being out of the machine shop for 20 years, and didn't really expect to be knee deep in 3D stuff so fast. so, what do I change? Do I need a different file output, if so, what will give me truer radii and smoother 3D surfaces, or is it a setting in the CAM side of things, or back to possibly a setting in the original Alibre file before I export it into an STL? which from what I'm reading is a result of using STL files, they are mesh type surfaces rather than true "NURBS", whatever that stands for. However, I end up with supposedly curved surfaces generated into segmented circles, and lofted surfaces turned into triangular mesh surfaces. trying the free version of VisualMill or CAMBAM I can get tool paths to machine the part. When I import that file into my CAM software. I drew this part up and then the only export option I have to output is an STL file. Relatively new to true 3D machining and have some surface irregularities and I'm not sure what to blame or what to change to resolve the issue.įirst, I'm using Alibre (the personal edition, cheap stuff) and I'm getting pretty decent with my "parts" now.
